Sierra Wireless expands options for 3G in M2M with new embedded module

Sierra Wireless has announced a new addition to its AirPrime Q Series of embedded wireless modules. The AirPrime Q2698 adds support for 3G HSPA+ on five frequency bands to the AirPrime Q Series, along with support for 2G GSM/GPRS/EDGE on four frequency bands, making it compatible with networks worldwide and suitable for global deployments.

New system management tools for wireless communication applications from Microsemi

Semiconductor specialists, Microsemi Corporation, have introduced a suite of system and power management design tools for high availability wired and wireless communications infrastructure equipment. The new design tools include Microsemi’s Mixed Signal Power Manager (MPM) 4.0 reference design, which supports up to 64 power rails and mixed analogue and digital point-of-loads (POLs), as well as PMBus-based communication.

Renesas Mobile looks to double operators’ GSM capacity following test of VAMOS II

Renesas Mobile Corporation has said that it has undertaken the world’s first pre-commercial trial of the latest version of Voice Services over Adaptive Multi-user Orthogonal Sub-channel (VAMOS II), the next step in the evolution of GSM technology. Held on a test network in Beijing, and using ZTE infrastructure equipment, the successful trial involved a complete implementation of VAMOS II on Renesas Mobile’s smartphone reference platform RRP11B. The results showed a twofold increase in available network capacity including pairing with legacy terminals.
